McCauley Beach

A lot of American service people and their families traveled to McCauley Beach for recreation. This isn't the best photo of the place, but who can resist this bunch of cute kids?

The guys over at the Linkou website have a bunch of pictures of their parties at McCauley, including these from 1970. In those pictures you can see that there was a fence separating the officer beach from the enlisted beach. Both beaches faced the same Pacific Ocean, as far as I know. I'm not sure how they separated that.

I believe someone said that there's a power plant there now.

A comment in one of Kent's blogs is one version of why the fence was put in place. From '67-69 it was a hurricane or snow fence, and the dependents either ignored it or knocked it down (it was on the 50-yard line for crying out loud!). I won't disagree with Kent's suggestion because that's quite possible, but I do know that I was assigned to other bases where there were numerous separate facilities for officers and enlisted. At one base I was assigned to in Florida, my building even had separate restrooms.
