Taiwan Report - 1960s

During 2009, I posted a copy of "Taiwan Report," the booklet that was mailed to individuals being reassigned to the Taipei area.  That edition was published by the U.S. Taiwan Defense Command in 1973.  Les Duffin kept a copy of the booklet from his tour and was kind enough to scan its pages and provide them to me for the blog.

I recently received a much earlier edition of Taiwan Report from Scott, who believes it was probably published sometime during the 1960s, possibly 1965.  There are enough differences between the 1973 version and this one that I want to include it here.

I will post this version as I did the last one, a few pages at a time over several days.  When the entire booklet has been published, I will then publish a separate index with a link to each of the posts, just as before.

Today I'll post the index and chapter one (General).  You may notice that there are a few page numbers missing.  Those were printed specifically for the Shulinkou version so I'll not include them here.  Click on any of these pages to see a larger version.

  3. Don I can really relate to the second (hand drawn) map with the mountains etc.. I notice a few things. The first thing is the location of the American School. this was the same area that the "American village" was located. I believe I have a photo of the school yard. The other thing I noticed is where the MAAG compound was located. If this was truley the area then it would make sense that you could see the Story House from there as in the photo we saw.
