After viewing the You-Tube clips of Tien Mou, Dennis McNelis sent me this photo of Tien Mou back in 1973. Just a tad different, eh?

Yes, and Yes again. This is what I remember and even much worse back in the 65-67 time frame. What a difference today as seen in the Youtube Videos. I'm planning to go back and check it out myself by next year, if I can get the retirement "golden parachute" or a package? Thanks Dennis for the photo and thanks Don for posting.
Ditto to George's comments; in fact, I remember the street was widened to 4 lanes and 'new' sidewalks being added about that time. My favorite Mongolian BBQ restaurant could have been right near this cleaners; just don't remember the area that well. I bet this area was about a mile south of the old BOT housing.....
When the street was widened it was also levelled. This is one of the reasons why when you walk past all the shops in Tienmu you end up stepping up or down to reach the next shop in a seeminly random manner. Some of these steps were and still are quite dangerous and had cement ramps to facilitate riding motor scooters up and down easily.
Yes the cleaners was next door to the Mongolian BBQ. I really loved that food. The New BOT housing was a very short distance from this picture. I would say the beginning of the housing was maybe 1/4 mile away. Also yes that when expanded to 4 lanes with sidewalks I distinctly remember the level of the old payments in front of the stores was very uneven. In 2003 the BBQ was still there and also the cleaners.
Using Google Map's street view. You can see the cleaner is apparently still in business. With the exception of an extra 1 in the prefix, the phone number is the same.
My Dad was USAF E-6 and we lived in BOT housing in Tien Mou 69-71. There was great mongolian BBQ down the street and as kids there was great teen rec area down the street. He had to ride abus up to Shu lin kou MT (SP?) every morning. We went to TAS. LOved it and the live-in maid spoiled us when we went back to the states.
My name is Scott Kring, I worked om Grass mountain at the DCS Fac. in the Autovon Section. I lived in Tien Mou and I kow that in the distance the grey building on the left was where I and my family lived for about a year. It was just before the Mongolian BBQ coming from Taipei. We were actually living there while this road work was going on.
